FAW Starts up Construction Project in South Africa

A contract for the production process equipment and civil engineering management for  the FAW Coega assembly plant in South Africa was signed by correspond departments concerned on Aug 8 in Changchun.

The FAW South Africa production base, which is invested and managed by FAW Africa Investment Co, is FAW's first large-scale overseas program in recent years. Construction of the base is divided into two phases. The program of the first phase includes reorganization of the FAW South Africa company, building up an assembly plant in Coega, establishing a 4S flagship dealer shop and spare parts warehouse in Johannesburg, and building up a distributing center. The total investment for the first phase is estimated 79.96 million US dollars. The program of the second phase is to build up a production facility which has capacity to produce 30,000 economic cars per year.

According to the plan the construction of FAW Coega assembly plant, with an annual production capacity of 5,000 FAW trucks, will be completed and put into production in May 2014.
