FAW-Volkswagen, Volkswagen AG's joint venture with the FAW Group, has announced that the company plans to more than double its current sales in China to 600,000 cars by the year 2011.
FAW-Volkswagen sold 277,300 vehicles last year, ranking third in China. The company¡¯s 2011 projected sales would include 450,000 VW-branded cars and 150,000 under the company's Audi brand.
The joint venture plans to control 10 percent of the Chinese market by 2010. In the first eight months of 2006, FAW-Volkswagen sold 175,585 VW-branded cars and 52,091 Audis. It expects total sales for this year to reach 352,000 units.
FAW-Volkswagen also announced significant expansion of its product range in the coming years. "We will launch at least one new model every year to meet growing market demand," said Mr. An Tiecheng, president of FAW-Volkswagen.
FAW-Volkswagen, a joint venture between FAW Group and Volkswagen AG, produces a wide range of premium passenger and commercial vehicles. Current products include the Bora, Caddy MPV, Golf, Jetta, Sagitar, Audi A4, A6L, A8L, Q7, and TT.
