“Innovation in Progress”, a TV programme of CCTV-10, showed Hongqi smart minibus trial operated in Nanhaizi Park, Beijing on April 19. Two reporters experienced a driverless ride on a Hongqi smart minibus, and found the bus could avoid vehicles and pedestrians automatically, and park itself without a steering wheel and a cockpit.

The Hongqi smart minibus in Nanhaizi Park is a Level-4 self-driving bus designed by FAW, and powered by a variety of Hongqi’s cutting-edge technologies, such as smart autonomous driving, voice interaction, AI robot, latest breaking system and fusion sensors. The smart minibus can be mass produced. Meanwhile, the interior is used to the utmost through optimizing the layout with no steering wheel and cockpit.

Hongqi smart minibus runs at a low speed of 15km per hour in Nanhaizi Park. Sensors on the bus can detect obstacles up to a hundred meters away. The senor for 360-degree coverage can make a judgement in 100 milliseconds to determine if it is safe to pass.

Based on Hongqi’s smart FEEA2.0 platform, the bus also comes equipped with 5G communication technology and high-precision positioning system. At present, users can hail a smart bus on Hongqi ride-hailing APP with a touch of the button.

Hongqi smart minibus in Nanhaizi Park started inner manned test since April 1. The service is only opened to a specific group of people. After inner test operation, Hongqi ride-hailing APP will provide services to the public with a variety of applications. Hongqi, together with Nanhaizi Park, will put forth the construction of a smart park featuring technology, entertainment and interactive experience all in one.

FAW is a leading global manufacturer of quality passenger cars, trucks, and buses. Established in 1953, the company is China’s oldest and largest automotive group. Annual sales exceed three million units.
